Woman Plays With Her Toddler On Train, Then Gets Note ‘Lecturing’ Her Parenting From Stranger

Parenting is a thankless job. Parents sacrifice their bodies, sleep, freedom, and countless other things all so that their children can live happy and healthy lives.

And usually, it’s not until their children are much that they receive a “thank you,” though some aren’t shown any gratitude no matter what age their children are.

That’s why Sammie Welch was so happy when a complete stranger commended her parenting skills.
The 23-year-old was traveling from Birmingham to Plymouth on the First Great Western train with her 3-year-old son Rylan. She made sure that she was keeping him occupied so that he wouldn’t get fussy during the train ride and disturb the other passengers.

“We were playing together and I was trying to keep him occupied. He normally gets quite rowdy and bored on long trains so I was doing my best to entertain him as much as I could,” Sammie told Independent. “He was eating his dinner, I had made him a packed lunch, and we were laughing at the fact he kept calling his grapes strawberries.”

That’s when a stranger walked up to her and handed her £5 ($6.67) with a note.
“He tapped me on the shoulder and said, ‘I think this fell out of your bag,’” Sammie told Good Morning Britain.

She thanked him, took the note, and was shocked at what she read. When she opened the note she realized that the note and money didn’t come from her bag at all. The note commended her for her parenting efforts and explained that the money was so that she could treat herself.

Here’s what the note read:
“Have a drink on me, you’re a credit to your generation, polite and teaching the little boy good manners. PS I have a daughter your age, someone did the same for her once. Hope when she has children she is as good a mother as you.”

According to Independent, the note was signed “man on the train at the table with glasses and hat.” It was a lecture on how great of a parent she is!
“I can’t actually describe the way it made me feel,” she said.

She decided to place the money he gave her into a savings account for her son.

“I don’t think he understands how much the note made me feel,” she said. “So, I’d like to tell him.”

She put out a plea on Facebook and hopes to track the man down so she can thank him in person.

“He shows there are still good people out there and I want him to know I am truly grateful,” Sammie said.
