Justin Durrett is the assistant police chief of Checotah, Oklahoma, and he was recently involved in a terrible car crash on his way to work.

The accident, which occurred on February 11 of this year, ejected him from his vehicle after his truck slid off the road and crashed. Then, the car landed on his body. He remained trapped for 45 minutes.

Upon impact, Justin broke his neck, bruised his spine, and had gashes deep enough into his head that he needed staples put in.

Justin’s friends, Jarred and Trish Ziegler, created a GoFundMe page to help Justin with his medical bills. They wrote:

“Misty Johnson, a sheriff found him. She never takes the route she did but something told her to. She then seen his vehicle seen glass glass busted out [sic] and then heard his phone ringing. So she ran to him and called for help and never left his side. Thanking God for her!”

Fortunately, and surprisingly, Justin survived the wreck and is currently responsive. Now, while he’s recovering, the medical bills are starting to pile up, and he’s seeking $20,000 in financial assistance.

Little did Justin and his friends know, someone from Justin’s past would come out of the woodwork — and that person is Carrie Underwood.

Carrie Underwood, who was reportedly childhood friends with Justin and regularly attended church with him, decided to make a donation of $10,000 under her married name: “Carrie Fisher.” Since donating, Carrie pushed the the fund’s total to over $15,700 as of Wednesday, February 21.

Carrie has not publicly commented on the donation, but many of the comments on the GoFundMe reveal that plenty of others have been inspired by her incredible donation.
