DIY home remedy for bad coughs and phlegmy lungs

bez-imeni-1

We all get those tedious colds — the ones that come with a bad cough and phlegm in our lungs. We pop lozenges, brew tea, and knock back bottles of cold meds but these usually just help stave off the symptoms, and temporarily at that. Then there are the fad cures, with at least one new one appearing every season at the local pharmacy. (And disappearing nearly as quickly…)

But there’s a substantially better solution.
1

This home-treatment is called the «honey wrap» and all you do is place it on your chest overnight. Your symptoms should be reduced or completely gone by morning.

But why is a honey wrap better than my usual cough syrup, you may ask?

Most cough medicines contain codeine, which can lead to breathing problems, confusion, and nausea in children under 12. In European studies, «respiratory depression» has even been shown to lead to death in some cases. Cough syrup has the effect of flattening your breathing, or even suspending it.

Another problematic ingredient is dextromethorphan. The cough suppressant can cause dizziness, gastro-intestinal complaints, drowsiness, and skin alterations. With the honey wrap, you don’t need to worry about any of these side effects. And this natural cough reliever is as pleasant to apply as it is easy to make.

You will need:

  • honey (if you can get local or regional honey, it will be most effective)
  • coconut oil (warmed up)
  • 1 tsp flour
  • 1 napkin
  • medical tape

Here’s how:

Mix the teaspoon of flour with some honey and then add the warmed-up coconut oil. Pour the mix onto the napkin and place it on the cold patient’s chest. Gently secure it in place with the medical tape.

Adults should wear the compress overnight. Children may take it off after two or three hours. It’s recommended to repeat the procedure several times per week, or until the symptoms are gone.

So if you’re looking for a natural way to combat coughing and phlegm in your lungs, you should give this method a try. It can only help: it has no side effects (unlike most medicines on the market), it costs almost nothing, and it has already helped so many people — especially kids — breathe easier and quickly recover their health.
