It is amazing what a little love can do to change someone’s entire life. This rescue dog had almost completely given up hope that anyone would come save him; then, something incredible happened. These people changed his life forever.
Arkin is a 7 year old pup who lives in Romania. Until recently, he had spent his entire life in a public pound. The conditions were almost unbearable. As time went by, the dog only became more depressed. He was convinced that he would be trapped in this horrible place forever. Fortunately, that was not the case.
Howl of a Dog came to the rescue! This organization’s “commitment is to rescue abandoned, neglected and abused dogs (and other animals) from the streets or from local kill-shelters and to find them suitable loving forever homes.” When they found out about Arkin, they knew they had to save him.
When the Howl of a Dog workers arrived at the pound, they noticed just how hopeless Arkin’s demeanor was. “He neither barked nor whined…” they recalled, “his cry could only be heard by the heart.” When the workers first walked by, the pup did not even bother to look up at them. “Maybe he had seen so many people passing him by that he ceased to hope someone would ever get him out of that horrible place,” they pondered.
Howl of a Dog brought Arkin out of those deplorable conditions into their own care. The poor pup needed a lot of help: “he was underweight, with many wounds on his body and suffering from a terrible flea infestation,” they explained. It seemed that he would never quite recover.
Looking at Arkin now, it is hard to believe he is the same dog! He is clean, cheerful, and has a bounce in his step. The work was not easy. In addition to a trip to the vet, Arkin needed a medicated bath to treat his fleas. Now he is clean, soft, and loving! “He has made a beautiful recovery and his personality has started to shine through,” Howl of a Dog shared. “He’s very good with people and enjoys cuddles, he’s playful and gets along well with other dogs and he loves to be taken out for walks.”
