In 2016, Dolly Parton and Carl Dean have celebrated their 50th anniversary!
The two met each other when Dolly was 18, and she had just moved to Nashville. Carl Dean, 21 at that time, was driving past the Wishy Washy laundromat when spotted Parton. He then stopped to warn her that she was going to get sunburns in her revealing outfit.
Dean recalled:
My first thought was, ‘I’m gonna marry that girl.’ My second thought was, ‘Lord, she’s good lookin’. And that was the day my life began. I wouldn’t trade the last 50 years for nothing on this earth.
The country star also shared how she felt that day:
I was surprised and delighted that while he talked to me, he looked at my face (a rare thing for me). He seemed to be genuinely interested in finding out who I was and what I was about.
Two years after that meeting, in 1966, the couple tied the knot.
Since the day one, the singer understood her husband didn’t want fame. Moreover, he showed no interest to the industry. You will find a handful of photos of the spouses posing on a red carpet.
Carl and Dolly have been there for each other for more than five decades now. Not every couple can go that far! So what is their secret?
“You can’t be in each other’s face all the time. Actually, I think that has been the best formula for us, the fact that we appreciate each other when we are together. We don’t have to be together all the time,” the singer told Taste of Country.
