Doublemint Twins Became Famous In 1985 And Now They Say A Secret Jealousy Tore Them Apart

bez-imeni-1

If you watched TV between the years 1985 and 1995, then you definitely became familiar with the Doublemint Twins. Linda Ryan Puffer and Lisa Winters Cox were the longest-running twins, who became iconic while starring in the famous Wrigley chewing gum commercials.

Whether they were riding their bikes or strolling through the snow, the commercials always showed the pretty blonde twins smiling and laughing.

But their relationship wasn’t as perfect as it seemed to the viewers at home.

When the Doublemint commercials stopped airing in 1995, the relationship between Linda and Lisa took a very dark turn. Chicago Business writes: “While the pair made a point of dressing differently and used different stage names, the Doublemint gig typecast them as twins. Ms. Puffer found it sometimes hindered her from getting other acting jobs. She admits to feeling perplexed by the fascination with her role as a Doublemint Twin: ‘When you break it down, we were walking and chewing gum at the same time.’”

Linda was convinced that the public saw Lisa as the more “perfect” twin. “She’s the prettier one, she’s the smarter one,” Linda said.

The more Linda felt jealous, the more anxious and stressed she became. Things got so bad she could hardly be around her twin sister, with whom she was once inseparable. “I was ashamed that I was envious, I was ashamed that I needed that attention.”

Meanwhile, Lisa knew her sister was rejecting her — but she couldn’t watch her succumb to her dark emotions any longer.

In the clip below, courtesy of Oprah: Where Are They Now?, Linda and Lisa reveal the truth behind their relationship and where they stand today.
