The Golden Globe Ambassador, previously known as Miss or Mr. Golden Globe, is chosen by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) among the sons or daughters of the film industry’s most respected members, such as actors, actresses, producers, or directors. This tradition began in 1962, introducing many new generations of stars to the filmmaking. Laura Dern, Anne Archer, Linda Evans, Melanie Griffith and her daughter, Dakota Johnson, are amongst them. The Golden Globe Ambassador’s role is to assist during the Golden Globe Awards ceremony. Last year, Sylvester Stallone’s daughters were offered the role.
This year, the title has been renamed to the Golden Globe Ambassador in order to better correspond with the role given to the entitled person, which is inspiring and giving an example to future generations. And the 2017 Ambassador’s title has been given to Simone Garcia Johnson, the daughter of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Dany Garcia.
At her position, Garcia Johnson will work in partnership with GlobalGirl Media, which aims at promoting and encouraging female journalists from deprived areas, giving them better opportunities for self-development and growth through their annual grants.
HFPA President, Meher Tatna, welcomed Garcia Johnson into the organization by saying:
As we look forward to the 75th anniversary of the Golden Globe Awards, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association members decided to expand this role to embody the HFPA’s philanthropic efforts year round. The honoree will now be referred to as the Golden Globe ambassador and we could not think of a better representative than Simone to carry on this tradition, as her values closely reflect everything the HFPA stands for.
Garcia Johnson is thrilled to participate in such an inspiring event and is ready to become the next role model for future generations. She said:
I’ve been lucky enough to grow up in a household with strong role models and feel so honored to represent the HFPA for its 75th Anniversary. As the newly minted Golden Globe ambassador, I hope to serve as a role model to young people everywhere and empower them to speak out on issues they are passionate about.
The ceremony itself will be held on January 7th, 2018 and aired live on NBC. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was more than happy about his daughter’s appointment. He wrote on his Instagram page:

Golden Globe Awards started back in 1944. These are prizes given by 93 members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. It is an annual ceremony at which the awards are presented for the excellence in film and television production.
