Even though few people are fully aware of their exact value, knees are really the joints that give us the opportunity to have a fulfilling life. The knees are the largest joints in the body. These give us stability, flexibility, and support. Without our knees, we would not be able to walk, jump, run or even stand up. That’s why it’s so important to take proper care of these joints so that you never have to deal with issues that affect them and that can affect your mobility or limit your daily activities.
To help you prevent this type of problem, we have prepared some tips that will help you strengthen your knees and keep them healthy.
1. Exercise
If you have weak knees, you can exercise. There are a lot of different exercises that can help to strengthen the muscles that surround these joints and keep them in good shape. You can do steps, lunges, quadricep (the muscle in the anterior compartment of the thigh) stretching, squats, and exercise by bringing your knees to your chest. And there are many more, it’s up to you to decide which ones are best for you.
2. Consume more calcium
In order to keep our bones, and among others things, our knees, in good health, we need calcium. A deficiency of this element can cause a weakening or even a thinning of our bones, which can cause osteoporosis. To avoid this problem, consume supplements (with vitamin D so that the calcium is well absorbed) or foods that contain calcium (milk, cheese, sardines, almonds, green leafy vegetables, grains).
3. Massages
There are two ways to do this. Either you call on a professional masseur who is well versed in massage therapy (it strengthens joints and muscles and improves blood circulation), or you give yourself a massage at home. To massage your joints at home, you will need olive oil or another suitable oil with which you will gently massage your knees. It is recommended to massage them for 15 minutes.
4. Maintain a healthy and stable weight
There is no doubt that people who are overweight have more problems with their knees because they are constantly under great pressure. Moreover, in these cases, there is a high probability that your knees or hips will have to be operated on one day. To avoid such problems, overweight people must lose these extra pounds by exercising and living healthy lives.
Put these simple tips into practice and your knees will never betray you. Your mobility and your health depend on you!
