Many people around the world compete in talent competitions to win money. They generally take the prize to pay for their study or start a business. But Julia Carlile has a more powerful reason: To pay for a spinal surgery in order to continue her career as a ballerina.
This 15-year-old girl has scoliosis. This disease causes curvature of the spinal column from side-to-side. The curvature can be in the shape of an “S” or “C”. In the majority of cases, the cause is unknown.
Julia needs to undergo a surgery, but it’s more complicated than it seems. Since the procedure means the insertion of titanium rods at the base of the spinal column, her movement will be restricted. This means that her career as a dancer could end.
However, there is a ray of hope in the form of a procedure which can only take place in the United States. And unfortunately, it’s very expensive. But, with her goal in mind, her friends had the great idea of having her perform on a talent competition called ‘Britain’s Got Talent’.
Every performance could be Julia’s last, so she didn’t hesitate and got together with her group of dancers, ‘Just Us’ to perform in the contest. Her performance was so emotional and fantastic that the judges gave her a pass directly through to the semi final. In spite of her condition, Julia’s talent was recognized with applause, cheers and a standing ovation.
There’s a lot of talent in this group and the support of the girls to help her get the operation is worthy of admiration. Check out her touching performance:
