The microwave is an essential appliance in almost every home. It makes it quick to reheat or prepare food. We tend to warm up baby bottles in the microwave to speed up the process and stop their cries. However, this can be dangerous.

The first reason it can be dangerous is that your baby can burn themselves. Surely you’ve noticed that if the bottle nipple heats up much more than the liquid, or the opposite, it can lead to burns on their hands or tongue.

Another reason is that heating food or drink inside plastic is dangerous. This is because the plastic releases substances such as BPA (Bisphenol A) and BPS (its substitute, Bisphenol S), which are endocrine interrupters. That is, they cause hormonal problems. Risks include developing asthma in children, prostate cancer in men and breast cancer in women.

The third reason is that heating food in the microwave makes it lose some of its properties. In this case, the composition of the milk’s protein changes.

In Russia, for example, it has been several years since the use and sale of microwaves has been prohibited. This is because the early models emitted high amplitude electromagnetic waves, which were harmful to health.
So the best thing you can do for your baby’s health, is take a few extra minutes to heat up your drinks directly on the stove.
