Mary Lapkowicz unexpectedly got something most girls dream about. She went to the prom with a quarterback for a football team Ben Moser. The marvelous in this story is that Mary has Down syndrome.
Mary and Ben were good friends at school. Ben always tried to take care about Lapkowicz and included her in different school activities.
Tracy Spogil, their fourth-grade teacher, remembers: “He watched over her constantly, If she was looking like she wasn’t having fun, he would go over and talk to her. He would pull her into whatever activity they were doing. He just always watched out for her”.
Exactly at this time, at fourth grade, Moser promised Mary to go to the prom together. Later a football coach at a neighboring high school invited Ben to the team, and Ben changed school.
Seven years passed and Mary did not expect that the star of the football team has remembered his childhood promise. What was her surprise when she got balloons from him with the word “prom” written on them!
“I was surprised,” Mary said to PennLive. “I was going to go with some friends.”
With tears in her eyes, Ben‘s mom watched how her son fulfilled the beautiful girl‘s dream.
