How to open a lock with a nut wrench

bez-imeni-1

Although it’s never cool to steal or snoop, I bet there’s been a time in your life when you’ve come face to face with a padlock that you can’t open. Maybe you lost the keys to your bike lock or found and old trunk in the basement with a lock on it, whatever the reason it’s probably happened to you.

In a useful video, YouTuber MrGear demonstrates how to open a padlock using two nut wrenches. Chances are you have at least one of these laying around your house and if not they can be purchased at your local hardware store. It’s worth watching. You never know when life will throw you one of those curveballs.

All you need to do is place the wrenches on either side of the metal loop and pry them apart in the opposite direction. Within seconds the lock should pop open. This handy trick relies on the pressure that builds up between your hands and the wrenches. You don’t even have to be super strong for it to work.

This can come in handy if you forgot the combination of your lock at school, or perhaps someone you know put a padlock on the sweets box. Check out the full video on the next page to see how it’s done.

MrGear demonstrates the technique on a variety of locks. At first, he begins by breaking a few open on a table, and then he demonstrates with a lock that’s attached to a hinge. You know a man has lived an interesting life when he knows exactly what’s needed to pry open a lock without a key. Hats off to him!

Next he goes outside and shows you what to do if the lock is too large for the wrenches to touch. He inserts a small piece of metal to act as the bridge between the two tools. Once again, he is able to open the lock effortlessly. Watching this will make you want to try it for yourself, so be warned (or have some cheap locks that you won’t use available).

This hack can come in handy if you ever lose the keys or forget the combination to a lock. However, I don’t recommend using it to break into someone else’s belongings or to enter a building. Here at Providr, we don’t condone illegal activities of any kind. So, if you’re a thief learning how to pick locks, look away!
