And the plot thickens. After a turbulent year for the Kardashian-Jenner clan, Kendall and Kylie hoped the rest of 2017 would be smooth sailing.
But they were sorely mistaken if they thought they could make it through even this summer unscathed.
The controversial pair recently released a new collection of T-shirts as part of the latest “Rap vs. Rock” collection for their Kendall + Kylie line.
In what can only be described as a bad judgment call on their part, Kendall and Kylie’s designs show their own faces and initials superimposed over images of iconic rappers and rock stars, like Tupac, Notorious B.I.G., Pink Floyd, and The Doors.
To no one’s surprise, the T-shirts caused an uproar of backlash against the sisters, who many believe have been disrespectful by equating their own fame to that of these musical gods.
One of the most vocal critics of these T-shirts has been Sharon Osbourne, who was absolutely floored to find a design that featured her husband, Ozzy Osbourne, with the Jenner sisters.
In a scathing tweet, Sharon ripped Kendall and Kylie apart, basically telling the reality TV stars to stay in their lane from now on.
“Girls, you haven’t earned the right to put your face with musical icons. Stick to what you know…lip gloss,” the former star of The View wrote.
The T-shirts also seemed to strike a nerve with Ozzy and Sharon’s daughter, Kelly, who shared her own recreation of the infamous T-shirt on Instagram.
The Osbournes weren’t the only ones who were outraged over these insensitive shirts.
In her own post on Instagram, Voletta Wallace, the late Notorious B.I.G.’s mother, condemned the highly criticized T-shirts.
“I am not sure who told @kyliejenner and @kendalljenner that they had the right to do this,” she captioned a photo on Instagram, adding, “The disrespect of these girls to not even reach out to me or anyone connected to the estate baffles me. I have no idea why they feel they can exploit the deaths of 2pac and my Son Christopher to sell a t-shirt. This is disrespectful , disgusting, and exploitation at its worst!!!”
After being slammed by their fans and critics alike, Kendall released a statement on behalf of her and her sister, promising the pull the shirts.
“These designs were not well thought out and we deeply apologize to anyone that has been upset and/or offended, especially to the families of the artists,” she wrote in a note. “We are huge fans of their music and it was not our intention to disrespect these cultural icons in anyway. The tee shirts have been pulled from retail and all images have been removed. We will use this as an opportunity to learn from theses mistakes, and again we are very sorry.”
