Little Big Town dazzles with Fleetwood Mac tribute performance

There’s no question that Little Big Town has plenty of hits to their name. But every now and then they deliver a cover song that brings absolute joy to our ears.

They did just that during the 2018 MusiCares Person of the Year benefit concert, on January 26, just ahead of the Grammy Awards, where they will also be performing on Jan. 28.

Proving that they’re are up for pretty much any musical challenge, the award-winning group, made up of members, Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Schlapman, Phillip Sweet and Jimi Westbrook, showcased their signature harmonies on Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams.” It’s fitting, since Little Big Town has often been compared to Fleetwood Mac during their career, a comparison they have embraced.

Taking the stage at the Recording Academy’s event at New York’s Radio City Music Hall, Karen, who donned a fashionable black gown featuring a sexy slit, had the honor of singing Stevie Nicks’ lines on the ’70s chart-topper. She showcased a laid back vocal on the first verse before the rest of the group contributed some soothing oohs and ahhs in their performance.

Afterwards, the country quartet was praised with a warm and heavy applause.

LBT’s performance of “Dreams” was part of a pretty special moment, as Fleetwood Mac received the MusiCares Person of the Year honors that evening. The award, which was handed to them by former President Bill Clinton, recognized both their contribution to music and their humanitarian work.

Leading up to the event, Little Big Town shared a tweet to explain just how excited they were to be included in the Rock & Roll Hall of Famers’ special evening.

“On our way to MusiCares to honor our heroes Fleetwood Mac,” they tweeted out, alongside a photo, which shows them showing off some very enthusiastic facial expressions.

And, it seems like that same excitement carried on after the show, too. In fact, Karen, Kimberly and Jimi all took to their respective social media pages to reiterate just how much Fleetwood Mac has meant to them over the years.

“Such an honor to pay tribute to Fleetwood Mac at #musiccares,” LBT’s Jimi tweeted, along with an accompanying photo of him and wife Karen chatting with Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham.

“Loved tonight more than I can say,” Karen wrote on her Instagram page, captioning two photos of her at the event. “Fleetwood Mac has meant so much to me, and to us as a band. The songs, the magical harmonies. I’m so grateful to have been part of such a special evening.”

As for Kimberly, she shared a photo that featured her onstage during LBT’s “Dreams” performance.

She wrote, “On stage last night at #musiccares Person of the Year — Fleetwood Mac. Such a privilege to be a part of honoring this amazing band, who has played such a huge part in the soundtrack of my life. #grammyweek.”

Aside from Little Big Town, Keith Urban, Alison Krauss and Jerry Douglas, Miley Cyrus, Brandi Carlisle and Zac Brown Band were among the many stars who took the MusiCares stage to honor Fleetwood Mac.
