Gil and Kelly Bates of Lake City, Tennessee, have one of the biggest families in the world: 18 kids and counting. The impressive brood ranges from 21-year-old Zach to newborn baby Judson Wyatt.
Gil runs a tree service company and the older boys work with their dad in the family business. All the children help with household chores through a buddy system, with older kids paired with younger siblings
The family operates on Christian values like kindness and patience. They attend church together every Sunday.
When asked if they will have more children, Gil reminds people that the bible says all children are blessings and the more the merrier.
With the help of his sons, Gil is constantly expanding their rural Tennessee home to accommodate their ever-expanding family. The younger children are home-schooled and the older ones are in college. Many of the 18 kids also play musical instruments.
Kelly says they do attract attention when they go out because they walk in a single line, which takes up lots of space.
As an only child, all I can say is “wow!” — this is a life I can’t imagine. For a peek inside the Bates family home to see how they all live peacefully under one roof, watch this fascinating video below.
