Every parent knows what it’s like to get frustrated with their kids — having kids is wonderful and rewarding, but it’s also ridiculously difficult.
Kids, especially toddlers, love pushing their parents’ buttons and doing whatever they can to get attention.
From throwing food around the house, to drawing on walls, to throwing temper tantrums, kids just know exactly how to get on their parents’ nerves.
We all lose our cool at times, but when you’re a parent you might realize that the people you’re mad at most are your beautiful children.
One mom, Shauna Harvey, had read about a clever way to stop yourself from being an “angry mom,” so she decided to give it a go.

Today I tried something new.
Something that required me to exercise patience with my oh so testy 4-year-old.
I wore 5 rubber bands on my wrist from the time I got up, to the time I tucked him in just now.
The 5 rubber bands represent every time you lose your cool or say something unkind to your child.
Every time that happens, you move one band to the other wrist.
To “gain the band back,” you must do 5 kind/positive things with your child (dance party, singing a song together, reading together, etc).
I read that science shows for every bad reaction, it takes 5 POSITIVE reactions to regain a positive relationship.
I’m going to be using this method until it becomes a habit and basically turns into an autopilot ritual.
I’ve found myself so incredibly stressed-out, I beat my head against the wall daily because I don’t understand why my 4-year-old insists on being disrespectful and a non-listener.
I was to the point of crying at least every other day.
I have finished the day with all 5 bands on the original wrist.
I’m very proud of myself for exercising patience with him.
I know it’s only day 1, but I’m hopeful this will help our communication skills and our relationship.
If you find yourself being that “Angry Mom,” try this!
People everywhere thought the hair tie idea was brilliant, leaving comments about how they wanted to try it.
One woman wrote, “This is an amazing idea! I’m a mother of a very strong-willed 7-year-old boy who suffers from ADHD/ODD/OCD, so communication is very hard with him… well, effective communication, anyway. I’m hoping this will help me.”
But this hair tie exercise is good for more than just challenging mom-moments!
One commenter wrote, “Thinking about doing this for myself. Any negative thoughts, unhealthy habits have to be earned back with 5 good deeds for myself #selflove“
With just 5 ordinary hair ties, you can practice mindfulness for a whole range of everyday challenges and troubles.
