On April 25, 2017, the Newport, Oregon, police department received a strange call.
The officers were told that a cat had stationed herself high in a tree.
Now, that doesn’t sound odd at all, as many cat owners and cat lovers know that felines love to climb.
The issue with the emergency call was that the cat in question appeared to be armed.
Yes, armed.
Apparently, onlookers noticed the cat and were shocked to see her holding what, at first glance, seemed like a rifle, or even a semiautomatic weapon!
Both human and K-9 officers of the police department were dispatched to the scene to investigate the situation.
How had the cat come into possession of such a weapon? And now that it was up at a high vantage point, what did she plan to do with it?
These questions and more must have been going through the officers’ minds before they arrived at the scene.
A post on the police department’s Facebook page laid out the results of their “investigation”:
“Reports of an armed cat this morning were unfounded. The feline was contacted by our canine and was determined to be in possession of a non-lethal branch. The cat was given a verbal warning for posing with what could be mistaken as an assault rifle while wearing poor camouflage attire.”
