Cancer is one of those terrible, tough diagnoses that are hard for people to handle.
But actress Shannen Doherty didn’t let her August 2015 diagnosis of breast cancer stop her. That doesn’t mean she didn’t struggle.
In fact, she struggled often, but she shared those moments of fear and doubt that she had while she went through chemo and radiation.
After nearly two years of battling cancer, Shannen shared news on Friday, April 28, 2017, that she is in remission.
As anyone with cancer or those whose family members have been affected know, remission isn’t always an all clear and there is a lot of waiting involved after.
Shannen shared the happy, honest version of the news in a post on her Instagram, which is where she’s been vocal throughout her entire cancer battle.
In the post, she wrote: “Moments. They happen. Today was and is a moment. What does remission mean? I heard that word and have no idea how to react. Good news? YES. Overwhelming. YES. Now more waiting. As every single one of my fellow cancer family knows, the next five years is crucial. Reoccurrences happen all the time. Many of you have shared that very story with me. So with a heart that is certainly lighter, I wait. In the meantime, decisions. Reconstruction which is several surgeries. Decision on taking a pill for the next five years that comes with its own set of problems and side effects. I am blessed, I know that. But for now…. remission. I’m going to just breathe. #cancerslayer”
