Kayla Gayton is fighting for her life. She was pregnant with quadruplets when she discovered that her cancer had returned and she would have to give birth before beginning treatment.
Kayla is married to Sergeant Charles Gayton, in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. When they got married, they became a family of four with two kids, Ethan, 11 years old, and Harper, 2 years old. One week after getting married, Kayla was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a cancer of the lymphatic system.
The mother underwent five months of chemotherapy and it worked. The cancer had gone into remission. Kayla and Charles had been blessed, but God gave them another miracle right after the remission. She learned that she was pregnant with four babies.
The mom and babies were growing healthy and strong. Doctors wanted Kayla to go into labor after 34 weeks. But, after 30 weeks, she received devastating news. The cancer had returned. It came back stronger. Her body was telling her she needed to begin treatment, so they had to bring the labor forward in order for her to fight for her life.
The four beautiful babies were brought into this world a little more than two months ago: Charles, Lillian, Michael and Victoria. The babies all had a healthy weight considering they were premature, each one weighing a little over 2 pounds. Kayla is now able to begin treatment and doctors are giving her a 50% chance of survival. She’ll have a stem cell transplant, followed by 16 months of chemotherapy.
Kayla is trying to stay positive during this difficult moment. She said: “Knowing that I have four new babies here who I’d love to see grow up and watch as their personalities develop. That gives me the strength to fight”. Charles has created a GoFundMe page and they have received several thousand dollars to help with their medical bills.
Once they found out the cancer had returned, Charles made the account. They have been blessed with people donating more than 1 million dollars. Kayla and Charles have a long road ahead, but they’re very grateful for the support they’ve received. Kayla hopes her story gives strength to other people going through a similar situation.
