Kechi Okwuchi has the voice and the strength of a survivor.

At the tender age of 16, Kechi was in a fatal plane crash that took 107 lives. Although her life was spared, she was left with lifelong scars from the burns she suffered. She even went through 100 surgeries to get back on her feet.

After surviving that ordeal, she decided she wasn’t going to let anything hold her back.

In the video below, posted on August 8, 2017, Kechi prepares to sing a song on America’s Got Talent during the “Judge Cuts” period. This is when the pressure really builds up.

She decides to perform John Hiatt’s “Have a Little Faith in Me” for America. Once she starts, each note is smoother than the last. She shows off the power within her voice and lets the judges know that she is truly here to compete with the best of the best.

The crowd cheers during her performance when she runs her voice over several notes. But that’s only the beginning.

Once Kechi finishes her song, she watches closely. The entire audience rises to their feet, but they are not the only ones.

All five judges jump out of their chairs and onto their feet to give Kechi a standing ovation. In disbelief, Kechi stares at the crowd she just impressed.
