It was a regular day at the High Rock Lake for Chance Pressley and his friends — until it took a very unexpected turn.
The teens were racing along on their Jet Skis when Chance spotted something unusual in the middle of the water.
In the video below, posted on June 21, 2017, the high school student recalls, “I was really confused at first: ‘Why was there a deer in the lake?’” He adds, “He was swimming and started bobbing up and down, trying to get air. So, I knew at that point he was drowning.”
Chance jumped off his Jet Ski, straight into the water in order to rescue the fawn. It was a fight, but eventually, Chance secured the fawn, who had lost his mother, and brought him to a friend’s Jet Ski.
The teens brought the fawn ashore, then Chance ended up bringing home the fawn, now named Fred, since he was all alone.
Now, Chance visits Fred the fawn at a rehabilitation center. Luckily, it seems as if the young deer recognizes his hero each time he’s around.
“I guess he does, because when I come up to him, he just walks right up to me and he always starts sucking on my finger. As soon as I walk up to him.”
