In 2005, at the age of 16, Kechi was in a deadly plane crash that killed 107 people. She and only one other person survived.
Incredibly, Kechi turned to music to help her cope in the aftermath of the tragedy. “Lying in the hospital bed, unable to move — music was my escape,” she says. “It did so much for me.”
Four years after the crash, Kechi returned to college and graduated with honors. Ten years after the crash — and after undergoing 100 surgeries to repair the damage that had been done to her face and body — Kechi bravely walked onto the stage at America’s Got Talent.
Not only did she share her survival story with the world, she also revealed her amazing voice.
After Kechi performed her rendition of “Thinking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeran, not even Simon Cowell could stay in his seat. They did not expect her to sing like that!
