What makes a particular puzzle go viral on social media? It most probably has to do with the fact that people just can’t seem to figure out what the answer is. You are more likely to share a puzzle that you just cannot get to the bottom of in hopes that someone else can help you out. So for this particular one to receive thousands of Facebook Shares, that’s telling you something.
At first glance, this seems like an easy enough math puzzle. Granted, you’ll probably soon figure that it’s not your typical ‘2=2=4′ scenario. But what has really got people wondering is the possibility that the puzzle might have two answers. Check it out below and give it a try. Then we will analyse how you can arrive at two answers.

So, did you get 96 or 40?
If you got 96, you probably solved each puzzle individually. You multiplied the first number by the second and then add your answer to the first. Hence: 1 x 4 = 4, then 4 +1 gives you the answer which is 5. This formula works for each of the examples. So, for the last one, you calculated 8 X 11 = 88, then add that to 8 which gives you 96. Simple enough, right?
Well, you could also get 40 as the answer if you include each previous answer into the next problem. 1 + 4 = 5. Then for the next one, you take the answer from the previous one and add to the problem. So, it will then be 5 (previous answer) + 2 + 5 = 12 and so on. This means, to solve the last problem, you’ll have: 21+ 8 + 11 = 40.
You can see how either of them could be right, depending on how you look at it. However, Braindare, the Facebook page that posted the puzzle insists that the correct answer is 96.
We think we just have to accept the fact that some puzzles just have more than one answer.
