Dwayne Johnson just doesn’t stop working. He is both an inspirational figure and also one of those over-achievers it’s hard not to be a little jealous of sometimes. From action to comedy, his schedule is so jam-packed with movies it’s off the charts. And these aren’t just small movies either, as his appearances in the Fast and the Furious franchise helped launch it into the record-breaking success it is today.
Back when he was best known for his career in professional wrestling as “The Rock”, his movement into Hollywood wasn’t taken too seriously. But now, after leaving World Wrestling Entertainment (formerly known as World Wrestling Federation) over 10 years ago, Johnson has more than proved himself as a leading man.
So it wasn’t that much of a surprise when people started throwing around the idea of Johnson running for president in 2020. After all, the election of Donald Trump as President of the United States was a surprising result that many thought would never come to be. So would it be so crazy for someone as popular and successful as Dwayne Johnson to run for office?
It turns out what was likely a mix of rumours and far-out hopes may actually come to fruition, as it looks like The Rock may be taking his first steps to entering the running for President.
It has been discovered that in recent weeks, paperwork has been filed that may set into motion Dwayne Johnson’s bid for presidency. This file was documented by The Federal Election Commission this week, an establishment of an organization named “Run the Rock 2020”, with the candidate name listed as “Dwayne Douglas Johnson”.
The paperwork was filed on behalf of the actor by a man named Kenton Tilford, who is also listed as the treasurer. Putting down a West Virginia address, the motivations behind the act and his connections to the actor are unclear so far. If this is the beginning of a campaign, it may be that Johnson isn’t ready to publicly announce it as of yet.
The website is listed as “Runtherock.com”, though the domain isn’t currently being used. Johnson has joked about the White House bid on a number of occasions, even standing in front of a podium labelled “The Rocky Johnson 2020” on Saturday Night Live this year. But his comments have sometimes shown a sincere interest in running for office.
After the Washington Post ran an article about the possibility that he might run last year, he spoke about the media furore on Instagram:
“More and more pieces like this are popping up due to the Presidential election and they’re cool/fun to read… I care DEEPLY about our country… and the idea of one day becoming President to create real positive impact and global change is very alluring.”
It seems like The Rock is not ruling it out, and as more and more fans cheer him on – maybe he has started to make some moves. But there is a long way to go until November 3, 2020, so we’ll have to wait and see whether the star makes an official announcement.
