At the end of the war, the orphanages of the Southern Vietnam were full of babies, who had lost their families. The Americans were evacuating their forces, and a number of charity organizations asked them to help take the orphans to Western countries.
That’s how the Operation Babylift began!
The infants were put on airplanes and taken to various countries, including Australia, France, and Canada, but mostly to the US.
Approximately 3,300 children were saved and later adopted.
One flight was paid by a philanthropist and businessman Robert Macauley, who had mortgaged his house to support the operation.
As a result, 300 babies were safely delivered to California!
Today, these kids are grown-ups. They have families and kids!
This initiative was just amazing, and I’m really happy for the babies, who were taken away from the horrors of war into the world of peace and prosperity!
