At birth, Ellie and her sister Mollie were abandoned in an animal shelter. Since then, it’s been 18 months and Ellie still hasn’t been able to find a home.
As opposed to her sister, Mollie, who was adopted in October, 2016, nobody in the shelter can explain why the people reject Ellie because of her eyes: they are different colors.
The staff at the shelter assure that, apart from her eyes, Ellie is a happy and healthy dog, and her rare condition, known as heterochromia, doesn’t affect her vision. It’s just that her blue colored eye has less pigment than the other.
Elise Watson, manager of the shelter, said: “Ellie and Mollie arrived at the center at the same time. They’re both similar in temperament and personality, so there’s no other reason for Ellie to have stayed behind. It’s disturbing, since she’s a wonderful dog and we think her blue eye is really beautiful”.
