Obesity isn’t something which only affects humans, even active animals such as dogs are susceptible to this terrible disease. Especially if they can’t rely on a responsible family which takes care of them as they should. That’s what happened to Pearl, a dog who was ignored, mistreated and had a terrible diet. At 4 years of age she weighed 80 pounds and could barely breathe.
Pearl’s family never cared about her diet or exercise. And when Pearl could no longer move, they simply abandoned her. Luckily, a shelter in Augusta, Georgia found her and gave her a roof. And although it wouldn’t be easy, they began a strict diet and exercise regime.
But her problems couldn’t wait, Pearl was in terrible health and contracted pneumonia in her first months of recuperation. But Pearl kept fighting, and as soon as she recovered from the pneumonia, she went back to exercising.
As time went by, Pearl lost weight, and as she did her curious personality came out, full of love and energy.
Months later, Pearl lost more than half of her 80 pounds. She already looked like a completely different dog. She found a new home and a new family that loves her and helps her on her path to a healthy life.
