Some things in this world appear to exist just to confuse and amaze us. Lake Hillier, on Australia’s southwest coast, is one of them. With the permanent pink color of its water, this corner of the world is sure to fascinate any fan of all things curious.
Scientists are still unsure about the explanation for the color of the water, but it is known that if you put the water in a bottle it remains pink. It is thought that the color is caused by the presence of micro-algae which can only survive in water with high salt concentration, like this lake. Although it’s not dangerous to enter the lake’s water, whether you should do it right away is debatable.
Lake Hillier is isolated from the mainland, on an islet which can only be reached via helicopter or plane. But it is definitely one of the most magnificent places in the world:
