On May 28, 1934 on a Canadian farm five identical girls were born prematurely. Soon the world dubbed Dionne quintuplets “miracle babies.” The quints became a symbol of joy and hope during the Great Depression. Yvonne, Annette, Cécil, Émilie, and Marie were first quintuplets to be documented and to survive infancy.

Their mother thought she was carrying twing, but at that time no one could even imagine that the birth of 5 babies is possible. Even today the birth of 5 identical babies is a big rarity.

Soon thing took a tragic turn. Ontario‘s goverment took girls away from their parents and placed them in a museum called the Quintland on public display. These girls became an attraction for tourists and they didn‘t have an opportunity to see their parents. but the government earned millions of dollars during the Great Depression by selling dolls, calendars with pictures of girls and other souvenirs.

As a result of such exploitation in childhood, sisters suffered from psychological and personal issues(alcoholism, bipolar disorder, broken marriages). In 1997 3 sisters sued the government of Ontario. They won the case and received millions of dollars. But this won‘t excuse the way those sisters were treated, when they were children .
