We all know the love that Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani show for one another in front of the bright lights and big cameras on the stage. Yet, perhaps, the most endearing piece of their love is the one that hides backstage – the part that makes them who they are at their very core, when no one else is watching.
It’s a glimpse of that love that Gwen shared with the world on Dec. 19, just after Blake scored his sixth win as a coach on “The Voice.”
“Give me my hug!” Blake yelled not to Gwen, but to Gwen’s kids, who were all backstage to greet the country superstar after his contestant, 23-year-old Nashville native Chloe Kohanski, was crowned the winner of “The Voice.”
“America, I want you to think of every superstar that you can remember in music, every pop star, rock star and country star, and remember that those people are not like anybody else,” Blake said after Chloe’s performance of “Wish I Didn’t Love You.” “They don’t look like anybody else. They don’t sound like anybody else. Then I want you to think about that performance [from Chloe]: how your voice cracks, and pops and falls apart as you’re singing so perfectly. Ladies and gentlemen, this is a superstar!”
In Gwen’s InstaStories, she shared with fans random video snippets of the celebratory night, including her backstage reaction when the winner was announced. “Blakie won!” she yelled to the camera. “Oh my God, the kids are going to be so excited.”
Indeed, Gwen’s kids were the stars of the show backstage, visibly ecstatic about Blake’s win. The kids also took turns hugging Blake’s neck and even trying on his bedazzled “Sexiest Man Alive” suit coat.
And yes, it was a family affair back there, as even Gwen’s dad gave the “sexy” jacket a try.
“The Voice” win was certainly the perfect way to end what has been quite an amazing year for Blake and Gwen, both personally and professionally. Besides their ongoing relationship, hit songs and successful television specials, one of the highlights of Blake’s year had to be the opening of Ole Red Tishomingo, an Oklahoma restaurant, bar and live music venue inspired by his hit song “Ol’ Red.”
“I think the most important thing for me – outside of just doing something for this particular community – was for people to get a feeling of warmth here,” Blake said in a press release shortly after the venue’s fall opening in his home town of Tishomingo. “That’s one of the most important things about Oklahoma, the people here are good people.”
And Blake and Gwen are good people who deserve all the happiness they’re now enjoying, that’s for sure.
