Ashton’s brother Michael was born with cerebral palsy. When the actor was 13, he visited his brother at a hospital and learned that after a cardiac arrest, Michael had only several hours to live.
The doctors told the Kutcher family they could say goodbye to their son and brother as there were almost no chances they could find him a donor heart in such a short period of time.
After hearing this terrifying news, Ashton decided there was the only thing he could do to save his dear brother. Michael needed a heart immediately, and Ashton knew he had one that would be a perfect match.
The actor had a choice: his life or his beloved brother’s one. The man didn’t hesitate a minute. He approached to a balcony thinking about jumping off.
I shared everything I had in this world and I didn’t know that there was another way because I always had my brother with me.
Fortunately, what happened next will make you believe in miracles. His father saw Ashton standing on the balcony and asked him to step inside. “What are you thinking about? You can’t do that.” – the actor recalled his dad’s words.
His father came at the right moment to tell Ashton some happy news. The doctors found a donor heart for Michael, so it means he could live.
