Budweiser Clydesdales Trained For 45 Days To Perfect Emotional Bow In Post-9/11 Commercial

On this 16th anniversary of 9/11, many New Yorkers like myself are taking the time to reflect on how this tragedy changed us. Though I was only a little girl at the time, I knew that I would be affected by it for many years to come. At that time, nothing had ever hit so close to home, both figuratively and physically.

And at that young and tender age, I was moved not just by the sadness of the event, but also by the sacrifice of the first responders who gave their lives to save others.

The entire country echoed my sentiments. Suddenly, all eyes were on New York City, and people from coast to coast shared the same grief.

In the weeks that followed, people paid tribute to the deceased in public and in private. One memorable way that stood out was Budweiser’s commercial that aired just a few months after September 11.

The commercial itself was difficult to film. The delicate situation in downtown Manhattan and the general anxiety that blanketed New York didn’t allow for cameras to be airborne, but an exception was made for Budweiser. Cameras in the air filmed the famed Clydesdales making their way across the Brooklyn Bridge.

Then, in a final shot, the horses bow their heads and kneel toward Manhattan, paying tribute to the deceased.

Trainers revealed that the horses trained for 45 days to perfect the emotional bow, all for a commercial that only aired once.

You can watch the emotional commercial in the clip below.
