Ash Ruiz is a singer and a songwriter, and it’s safe to say that it was his grandmother who has shaped the man’s career. Ever since he was a little boy, Ash remembers his grandma singing whatever she was doing. Her voice used to be very beautiful and powerful.
Grandma Jean, as he used to call her, taught the boy a lot of songs, including her favorite, “Unforgettable” by Nat King Cole. That was when he was only 8 years old. Ash has been singing this song on her birthdays ever since, and Grandma Jean would sing along.
Unfortunately, with age, she lost her singing voice and could no longer join her grandson. But she still enjoyed listening to his singing, so the man would continue the tradition, often over the phone or over the Internet.
This year, Ash traveled from Colorado to Florida to make a surprise visit to his precious grandma, so that he would sing her in person. This touching reunion was caught on camera, and Ash himself wondered afterward how he had managed not to start crying during the song. Perhaps, he just didn’t want to spoil his gift and mustered up his will power for the sake of Grandma Jean.
