When Warren’s son James passed away, it left his parents heartbroken and devastated. But they still had a piece of him left in his dog, Dakota.
That was five months ago. Recently, Warren went on a hiking trip on Mt. Baldy in California. Though he knows the trails well and has hiked them before, Warren was blown off course by a gust of wind. He took a wrong turn and fell down three waterfalls.
He landed at the bottom, severely injured. He couldn’t get back up to Dakota. He yelled for her in vain, begging her to come down to him.
Ultimately, when he was rescued, he was forced to leave her behind in the icy conditions, all by herself. It was a heart-wrenching decision, but Warren had no choice.
He and his wife weren’t ready to say goodbye to Dakota so soon after saying goodbye to their son, but could only hope for a miracle.
Luckily, they only had to wait 24 hours before hearing news about the dog. Hikers found her, and she was alive! She had no apparent injuries, but was hungry and undoubtedly tired.
Now, the family is healing from the ordeal. They know they are very lucky the dog was recovered in time!
