Old Woman Faces Eviction From Home, Learns Neighbors Have Been Changing The Mortgage

Alice Smith contracted polio as an infant. As a result, the sixtysomething woman is both physically and mentally disabled.

Alice’s parents knew her disabilities would make it near-impossible for her to ever be able to pay for her home in Haddenfield, New Jersey. So, before they passed away, they arranged for the home to be paid for so she could continue living there.

Decades passed, and Alice was able to live there fairly independently, though with some help from caretakers. But when taxes increased to $8,500 per year, she got behind on the payments and faced foreclosure.

The disabled elderly woman was about to be forced out of the only home she’d ever known.

FOX News asked Alice, “If somebody told you they wanted you to move, what would you say?”

“Hell no, you go to hell!” she replied.

Eventually, the Smith family couldn’t afford to pay back the taxes; it didn’t help that New Jersey property taxes are among the highest in the nation.
