This is one of the worst nightmares for any parent — when a stranger comes to your child, takes him or her and disappears in an unknown direction.
Last week, a 27-year-old man approached a 4-year-old girl from Kenosha, Wisconsin, and tried to take her away. Luckily for the girl and her family, a neighbor intervened. The most surprising thing is that this neighbor is only a 12-year-old girl.
This year, Benjamin Spasogevic-Lee, known as Eli, moved to the Kenosha, where the 4-year-old girl lived. Neighbors said that the man seemed suspicious and strange to them — for example, Eli liked to practice yoga on the street in shorts.
According to the neighbors, he often tried to play with children and wondered where they were studying. One of the subjects of their discussion was rape!
On May 18, a group of children, including 4-year-old Caylee Carr, played on the street. Witnesses said that Spasogevic-Lee approached Caylee and led her along.
The children from the neighborhood saw what happened, and quickly reacted. 12-year-old Jada ran to the man and took Caylee’s hand. “Come on, Caylee it’s time for us to go home,” said the girl.
Little Caylee did not understand what was going on. She turned to the man and said: “I’ll be right back.”
But Jada did not allow this. “No, she will not return,” she said.
Spasogevic-Lee was later arrested; he continued claiming he did touch the girl, though. If he is found guilty, he faces a fine of $ 15,000 and up to 15 years in prison.
Caylee’s parents are unspeakably grateful to Jada for her protection of their daughter. “Thank God, she’s too smart to realize what happened,” Caylee’s dad wrote on Facebook.
The fearless Jada’s deed is truly admirable. We hope that her example will inspire other people not to be afraid of standing up for those who cannot stand up for themselves.
