Shannen Doherty was best known for her role on the hit show Beverly Hills 9021 and Charmed. But sadly, the actress has been in the news for something more serious. The actress was diagnosed with breast cancer in February last year and is now revealing more heartbreaking news.
She has recently revealed that the cancer has now spread to her lymph nodes. She told a news source, “I had breast cancer that spread to the lymph nodes and from one of my surgeries we discovered that some of the cancer cells might have actually gone out of the lymph nodes.”
She continued, saying, “So for that reason, we are doing chemo, and then after chemo, I’ll do radiation.” Shannen has been receiving a lot of love and support from fans of her shows.
Doherty was originally diagnosed in March of 2005 with breast cancer and according to various news sources, she went through a single mastectomy. But sadly this wasn’t the end of her journey.
The actress has been very open with her battle, posting stories about her experiences with chemotherapy and her medications. She does this to show fans the uphill battle that cancer causes in a young woman’s body.
She even posts various video clips on her social media page of chemo sessions in order to give people an inside look at what exactly the battle is like.
But Doherty has managed to see some positivity in her battle. She has said, “Cancer has in a strange way done some amazing things for me. It’s allowed me to be more me, like much more in touch with who I am…”.
After the removal of one of her breasts, doctors believed that she was on her way to recovery. They then quickly realized that the reason she wasn’t improving was that the cancer spread to her lymph nodes.
The cancer seemed to have traveled fairly quickly through her body. She told Entertainment Tonight, “Everything else is manageable. Pain is manageable, living without breasts is manageable…it’s how your future is going to affect the people that you love.”
She told the news source that she is losing weight drastically, constantly vomiting and some days can’t even get herself out of bed. Her husband has been with her every step of the way, helping her to the bathroom and coming to every medical appointment.
The actress isn’t sure whether or not that chemo and radiation are working but she makes sure to share every part of her journey to fans and to those interested in what happens when a person has cancer. She truly is a fighter and is helping others who might be going through the same journey.
