Marcia and Millie Biggs looked almost identical when they were born in July 2006. But within a few months, parents Amanda and Michael noticed some interesting changes taking place. Millie’s skin and hair grew darker, and they thought the same would happen to Marcia.
Instead, Marcia’s skin and hair became much lighter. While she inherited Amanda’s light complexion and golden hair, Millie inherited her dad’s brown skin and dark curly hair. Other than that, their physical differences are incredibly similar.
A mixed race couple expecting twins, like Amanda and Michael, have just a 1-in-500 chance that their babies will have different skin colors.
Marcia and Millie are constantly stopped by strangers who do double takes.
“I’d be picking them up after school, and the other parents would stop me and say, ‘Are they your daughters?’ When I told that them that they were twins, they would always be stunned,” Amanda says.
Even some teachers at Marcia and Millie’s old school refused to believe they were twins. But as they got to know the girls, they saw how similar and bonded they were.
Now, Amanda admits she’s already warned their secondary school teachers that yes, Marcia and Millie are indeed twins.
