The iconic actress once changed the game for all female actors. Years later, she is still a force to be reckoned with.
Marlo Thomas, who immortalized the character of Anne Marie in the famous show That Girl, is today 79 years of age and she is still one of the most inspirational figures in the Hollywood.
Thomas changed the perception toward women in television when she played the role of a career-oriented girl trying to make it on her own in New York City.
According to Huffington Post, she has been inspiring women ever since then, and she even received a Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor, for her «trailblazing career.»
She was also honored for her philanthropic work as national outreach director for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
As a person who has always been considered a symbol of inspiration to women, the 79-year-old star revealed that the current time was a great time for girls.
Among other achievements of women, including Barbara Williams retiring at 84 and Angela Merkel running a country at 61, Thomas pointed out, «A woman is running for president.
» She then recalled the time when she was producing her TV show in 1966. She revealed how she used to be the only woman in every room. «I felt that every man either wanted to kill me or [have a physical relationship] with me.»
Thomas also opened up about aging at an event sponsored by Good Housekeeping and L’Oreal Paris to honor inspiring women over 50. «I am surprised when I think about my age because I feel exactly the way I always have.»
She also had a few words of advice for people who think a certain age is a time to give up. She stated that you should not listen to people who say you can’t do something at your age.
She further suggested to keep moving, and to do «one very small thing» that gets you closer to your dream.
